Training Programmes for Community Health Workers

The Foundation for Mother and Child Health has instituted a very successful training programme for community health workers. The programme aims to train key health workers working in local projects in topics such as nutrition, health and hygiene, immunization and anthropometrics – specifically how to measure and weigh children accurately. The programme initially concentrated on the neighbourhoods of Jakarta surrounding the Foundation, but is now expanding to other areas in Jakarta.

Feedback from these training courses has been very good and further courses in communication skills have been arranged each year, thereby helping Community Health Workers transfer their knowledge to mothers in the local villages (kampungs).

The training will be offered three times a year beginning in February, June, and September as refresher training and for other target audiences such as local midwives and traditional birth attendants.
